PARENT EDUCATION

Parent Education

The ultimate goal of speech and language therapy is to help children become better and more efficient communicators, but PARENT INVOLVEMENT is one of the most important parts of the therapy process! Research has shown that when parents are actively involved in the carryover of skills, children make progress much faster and more consistently. While our SLPs will use specific strategies and techniques to improve your child’s communication, there is no substitute for the role you play in the process. Parent involvement in therapy is effective not only because of you, but also because intervention becomes an ongoing process and every interaction with your child becomes an opportunity to further their communication development.

But how do you implement these strategies at home to help your child? Through parent education! We can teach you how to correctly position your articulators (tongue, teeth, jaws, etc.) to show your child how to produce a sound just like we teach them to do in therapy. We can show you how to expand on an utterance to increase expressive vocabulary. We can help you model easy onsets to make dysfluencies (stuttering) sound smoother. We can show you how to implement an AAC system to assist your child in making their wants and needs known.

Thank you in advance for all you’re going to do to help your child become a better communicator!
